hang in there....

I took some time off work and headed south.
Here's a pic... but clearly not from Parkdale.

Sunny Sunday

A sunny but blistering cold day.
I wonder how old that bus shelter is?
It protects from the wind and rain much
better than the new ones in other parts of town.

My Mom used to work at this bank,
when it was still a bank sometime in the early '60s.
Where King meets Queen.

This is the most industrial use of stained glass I've ever seen.

karaoke

Karaoke at the Gladstone hotel. Queen and Dufferin streets.
I'm still undecided on if it's parkdale or not.
I know it used to be, but lines change.

Friday the 13th

Just needs a little paint. Cowan south of King.
Classic south Parkdale apartment buildings.

I hope I'm not coming off hard on the area by showing so many cops, but it seems like the police presence has been way up lately, and I'm all for that. This little stretch of King at Dufferin is one of the two places in Parkdale I wish would clean up a bit. The other is Queen and Landsdowne.

Island foods on King at Dufferin makes some great Rotis.
I could make an entire post of Parkdale Roti Shops that I love.

The moon rising over the old Irvin Toy Factory.
Condozilla changes the landscape again.

11 days into 2006

A globe/statue/fountain outside the Parkdale branch
of the Toronto Public Library, on Queen at Cowan.

This store has been in business for years and years.
They used to have a pair of panties in the window
with a pictue of supermodel Heidi Klum on them.

I dont understand why someone would want a
picture of someone else on their panties.
At least they're only $0.99

A doorway off an alley behind the LCBO store on Brock.
You know where that is right? Art by Kwest

And what did I say this morning about cops on horseback?
They seem to be everywhere, even King and Jefferson.

On my way to work...

Tyndall Ave south of King Street.
Recently I've seen a lot of Police on Horseback.

I saw an old bushell basket in a laneway while walking
to work this morning. Then I looked in.... WTF?

Okay, brand new photos from Parkdale

I only know about the Diodes because of an old
'The New Music' special on early Toronto punk.
I wonder how many other people under 30 know them?

There's a spot in Parkdale with a classic gas lantern,
a cast iron gate and flags from all around the world.
Good luck finding it!

Got thisrty, it happens.

Remember Blue Skies?

Here's another classic Parkdale corner. Most people just zip by it on the 504 King Streetcar and dont even notice that the fence is made out of bikes. Also from a much nicer day than today.

From a warmer day than today,

Looking east towards downtown at the Gardiner Expressway south of Dunn Ave.

My Parkdale includes Liberty Village.

New Year, New Project...

This blog is going to be a host for the pictures I take of Parkdale, Toronto, as I see it. The neighbourhood is going to change really quickly, so this is my chance to document Toronto's last gritty oasis. Some people might ask 'Why document Parkdale?' Well those people dont live here, and this blog has nothing to prove to them, but for people around the way, I hope you enjoy the photos.
